Yay! I'm nearly done with the first sock for my Sockapalooza pal. I've done this sock toe-up (a first for me) using Wendy's generic toe-up sock pattern with a short row toe and heel. I did change the heel to garter stitch, mostly because I was getting bored of all the stockinette. :) I feel a little inadequate with this sock, with all the fair-isle, multi colored, intricate textured socks that I've seen others making. But sock pal, you asked for this self-patterning yarn (which will remain nameless for now, although I know some of you could easily identify it). I started it twice with two different textures that I thought might work, but the general consensus of me an my ski buddies was that a plain ole sock would show off the pattern better. I do promise, however, to give you the most well-matched self-patterning socks that ever were. How's that?
And in more sock news, I finished the beaded socks from the Six Sox KAL and slipped a picture into my 2005 Gallery without ever posting one on the blog. So here they are! I love these more than I ever thought I would. And today the new Six Sox pattern was revealed. This one uses three different solid yarns in a spiral down the leg, and different colors for each of the cuff, heel, and toe. None of the yarns in my stash really seemed right for this one, so I went out today and bought what I will use for them. More Brown Sheep Wildfoote yarn in purple, black, and a tweed with those colors and a bright blue. I think it will turn out ok, but I'm trying to finish the Sockapalooza pair before I cast on for this one.
And for just a little more sock yarn fun, here is a picture of the yarn I won from Jenny's blog contest a couple of weeks ago. She has no idea how much this colorway excites me! You see, back when I decided that my mom and I would knit our very first socks on a trip last summer I bought this exact yarn and another one. I gave my mom her choice of yarn to use, and she picked the red and black. I was bummed! But now I'll get to have my very own pair of those socks.
